Sindiswa Victoria Zilwa

Sindi Zilwa is the co-founder and retired CEO of Nkonki Inc – one of the largest registered firm of auditors, consultants and advisors, established in 1993. Sindi is well regarded in the areas of accounting, auditing and business management.


“On 31 October 2016 Sindi Zilwa retired as CEO of Nkonki Inc and sold her shareholding through a management buyout. This put an end to her 23 years of adrenaline and risk driven entrepreneurship ever since co-founding Nkonki in January 1993.”

She was the youngest woman to win the Business Woman of the Year award and the third black woman to win the title. When Sindi qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990, she became the second black woman in South Africa to achieve this status.

Her qualifications include CA (SA), BCompt (Hons), CTA, Advanced Taxation Certificate, Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and Advanced Diploma in Banking.

She is an author of “The ACE Model-Winning Formula for Audit Committees”, used by the Institute of Directors to train Audit Committees members in South Africa. Her second book, “Creating Board and Committee Effectiveness” has been published by KR Publishing.

Sindi is a thought-leader in the field of business, entrepreneurship and transformation. She is one of the four pioneers who founded African Women Chartered Accountants Forum (AWCA).

In 2005 she was awarded the Eastern Cape Achiever Award in the Finance Category, publicly awarding it to her mother Mambhele as she turned eighty. In recognition that her success was owed to her and she did not want her to remain an unsung hero.

In 2008 Sindi received a Woman of Substance Award by the African Women Chartered Accountant’s Forum. Furthermore, in 2014 she received the “Woman of Professional Integrity Award” from the South African Professional Services Awards.

Sindi is married to Sva Zilwa an Attorney and they have been blessed with two daughters Liza and Lihle.
